Copperheads

 Copperhead ~ Agkistrodon contortrix

  • Adult body length: 24 – 36 inches
  • Body length at birth: 8 to 10 inches
  • Breeding period: August to October, and February to April
  • Young per year: 3 to 10 live young
  • Typical foods: Small rodents, small birds, insects, lizards and frogs
  • The Copperhead is a highly venomous snake that can give a

painful bite, though its venomous isn’t necessarily lethal.

Infact, some small animals have survived after being bitten

by a copperhead. Don’t ever take chances if you or your pet

has been bitten. Their bites are extremely painful and need

medical attention immediately. The venom causes tissue

damage, infection and lots of scarring. Most people are bitten

when trying to kill the snake or pick up the snakes, so the best

thing to do is leave them alone. If you don’t bother them, they

    won’t bother you.
