Eastern Ribbon Snake

Eastern Ribbon Snake ~ Thamnophis sauritus

Adult body length: 18 – 26 inches, record 38 inches

Length at birth: 7 – 9 inches

Breeding period: spring

Young per year: 3 – 26 young born live in July and August

Typical foods: small fish, tadpoles, salamanders, small frogs, and toads.

This non-venomous snake prefers weedy

and wet areas such as swamps, bogs, and

creeks. It is realated to the Garter snake,

and looks much like it. It is a very good

swimmer but is normally not found swimming

out in the open water.
