Scarlet Snake

Scalet Snake ~ Cemophora coccinea

Adult body length: 14 – 20 inches

Length at birth: 5 – 6 inches

Breeding period: March – June

Young per year: 3 to 8 young per year

Typical diet: Small snakes, rodents, lizards, and eggs

The Scarlet snake is non-venomous

snake that is normally mistaken as a

non-venomous Scarlet Kingsnake or

the Venomous Coral Snake. Its color is

about the same as these two snake but

the pattern is the same as the Scarlet

Kingsnake. Red-Black-Yellow-Black. It

is commonly found in pinewoods, dry

prairies, and sandy areas.
